Your first drop is a gear and route problem. Survive the opening minutes, secure a structure, and leave the southern coast with a usable firearm, armor, food, and meds.
First Two Minutes
| Priority | Action | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Move immediately | Use your adrenaline while it lasts | You start fast, but only for a short window |
| Reach a structure | Houses, facilities, and lootable rooms matter more than open ground | Your starting pistol is not enough for an extended bad fight |
| Avoid unnecessary fights | Fresh spawns, infected, and hostiles can all end the run early | Early deaths usually come from stopping in the wrong place |
First Loot Targets
| Item type | Why it matters early |
|---|---|
| Primary firearm | Lets you clear infected and defend yourself against players |
| Armor pieces | Even low-tier armor is a major survival upgrade |
| Food and meds | Long runs fail when sustain is ignored |
| Ammo | A good gun without enough ammo is still a liability |
Lootables Worth Checking
The PDF guide is right about one important habit: chests are not the only containers that matter.
- breakable stashes
- cabinets
- shelves
- small interior storage pieces
- side rooms players skip because they look low value
Some of these lootables are specialized, which means a fast, disciplined building clear can outperform a sloppy run through a larger area.
When to Leave the South
Move north once you have:
- one firearm you trust
- enough ammo to survive a messy fight
- basic armor on most or all slots
- food and healing to survive travel
Do not move north just because you found one better gun. Northern movement is worth it when your kit can survive both PvE and PvP pressure at the same time.
Common First-Run Mistakes
- spending too long on the open shoreline
- chasing players before building a stable loadout
- ignoring food or meds while tunnel-visioning on weapons
- sprinting north with weak armor and no route plan
- forgetting that infected pressure scales up with the quality of the zones
Route Planning Notes
| Region | What to use it for |
|---|---|
| Southern shores | quick stabilization and first armor |
| The south | safer early roams, ammo, and broader loot checks |
| Lower north | first serious step into stronger gear and heavier pressure |
| Upper north / dungeons | high-end progression once your kit and route discipline are ready |
